Thanks for checking in, Steve! Glad to hear you've got a job going! Healthcare is a very handy thing - as is a dependable paycheck. I've worked in coffee/tea shops before and I have to say, if you get in at the right one, it can be a really comfortable rhythm for a day. Hope you're settling in nicely.

Ha - thanks, Jonah. You're the sweetest. And really - I just know the feeling. I've had to stop on the rower before as well. It catches up to you pretty quickly...and even with that you still KILLED that WOD. I can't believe the progress you're making! It's really so so so amazing to watch. Keep it up!

-----------------------------------------

Tuesday September 1 2009

Power clean + 2 clean - 65% x 2 sets; 70% x 3 sets

85 PC + 2, 85 PC + 2, 90 PC + 2, 90 PC + 2, 90 PC + 2

Snatch balance - 60% x 3 x 2; 65% x 3; 70% x 3 x 2

55 x 3, 55 x 3, 60 x 3, 65 x 3, 65 x 3

Stopped here and did not do the below. Tuesday is CRAZY. Do know that I did a CRAZY amount of stretching this day (like 7x during the day) and I subsequently felt myself flying underneath those cleans with relative ease. Everything just feels very mobile and open.

Push press - 75% x 5 x 5

95 x 5, 95 x 5, 95 x 5, 95 x 5, 95 x 5

3 rounds:
100 m sprint
10 broad jumps
10 kipping pull-ups

---------------------------------------------------------------------

WEDNESDAY September 2, 2009

Rest.
Just so busy and tired by the time I got to a point in the day where I could train.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

THURSDAY September 3, 2009

Did programming from yesterday, today.

Muscle Snatch - don't have a max...felt it out.

60% x 5, 65% x 4, 70% x 3, 70% x 3
45 x 5, 55 x 4, 65 x 3, 65 x 3

3 position clean -

65% x 2 sets, 70% x 3 sets
85 x 2 sets, 90 x 3 sets

Like this complex a lot. Notes on the sets:

1. Rushed. Power cleaned on accident - that's stupid.
2. Better.
3. So distracted. Keep screwing up catch footwork.
4. Best yet. Met bar.
5. Pulling bar away from the hip (so not back far enough) - need more shrug.

Took a break to coach the 530 at Tribe. Had a little bit of Turkey Breast from the Fair Food Farmstand at Reading Terminal. Yum.

Clean Deadlift

100% of Clean x 7 x 4

130 - 130 - 130 - 130

Really powerful. Glad I rested. Hamstrings and glutes firing well. Actively bracing a lot more.

Front Squat : Took 160 as my max.

60% x 8, 65% x 6, 70% x 5, 75% x 3, 70% x 5

95 x 8, 105 x 6, 110 x 5, 120 x 3, 110 x 5

Feeling pretty tired at this point. High rep stuff is way weird for me but I can feel that it's a weak part of my training that needs to be developed (strength endurance). No weighted sit-ups. Played around with frogstands into headstands and forward rolls with Greengas and Alyson.

Re: The Erin Experiment

Man I really wish I could do this... (wfs)

And today was a little weird. I stretched a whole lot. Isometric Shutdown stuff for my split (which is getting better and leaving me feeling very loose) and lots of stuff for loosening the pecs, lats, and anything else that pulls me forward from the shoulder.

No training. I'm combining my weakest elements from the last two days of PMENU training into one long WOD tomorrow that I'll try to get done at Open Gym. We'll see how it goes. Should have the place to myself for a while. That'll help.

Re: The Erin Experiment

What I was supposed to be doing:

FRIDAY, September 4, 2009

3-position Snatch - 65% x 2 sets; 70% x 3 sets
Snatch pull - 90% (of snatch) x 7 x 4
Snatch push press - 70% x 5 x 3; 75% x 5 x 2
3 rounds for time:
10 burpees
20 KB swings - 25% BW

Saturday September 5 2009

Snatch - 70% x 3; 75% x 2; 80% x 1 x 2; 75% x 1; 80% x 1
Clean & jerk - 70% x 3; 75% x 2; 80% x 1 x 2; 75% x 1; 80% x 1
Snatch shrug - 105% (of snatch) x 8 x 5
Back squat - 60% x 6; 65% x 6; 70% x 6; 75% x 4 x 2
Ab wheel - 3 x 15

---------------------------------------------------

Combine the two on a Sunday and hope for a lower volume day on Monday... or make one happen.

Light 3-position Snatch -
(Cut out first two light sets) 65, 65, 65

Failed forward on mid-hang snatch. Faulty recruitment.
All right.
Turned elbows out - best snatch yet.

Snatch Pull -
85 x 7 x 4

Shortened to 3. Hamstrings shaking. Worked on breathing.

Snatch Push Press -
65 x 5, 65 x 5, 65 x 5 (cutting off last two sets)

Snatch -
65 x 3, (losing the second set), 75 x 1, 75 x 1, losing 75%, 75 x 1

Sets of 75:
Ok.
Bad Catch.
Better Pull.

Clean and Jerk
Losing the C and J today... everything has been snatch focused and I can just keep it that way...

Snatch Shrug -

Taking these out cause I did the pulls.

Back Squat -
(if I'm up to it!)
110 x 6, 120 x 6, 130 x 6, 140 x 4, 140 x 4

Not up to it...but.... I did it anyway. I think cause I was avoiding the metcon. These were all true high bar.

3 Rounds for Time of:
10 Burpees
20 KB Swings (1 pd. is approx 25% of bw)

650. Ugh. So. out. of. shape.
That's a little aggravating but I guess par the course if you're not gonna do mainpage for a while.

Ab wheel - 3 x 15 (that'd be a pr...)

Tried a few but I felt like my head was going to explode - neck way tight. Called it a day here. I want to be able to train for the next two days.

----------------------------------------

Guess I'm kinda gonna start trying to do something Greg's worked up for the Rowzone. You punch in some measurements and you get out what you need to eat to (hypothetically) lose a lb. per week. That would be interesting. I go through phases of caring and not caring about my body composition. Right now I guess I don't really care because I want the energy to be able to do all of the things I do: training, work-wise, etc. So I just kinda eat paleo stuff when I'm hungry and try to make sure I eat light when I start to feel like I'm getting a little pudgy (haha). I guess I'm going to just weigh and measure a total at the end of the day to see where I'm at. So I'm shooting for 125g PRO, 125g CHO, 50g FAT. That fat is going to be the hardest part maybe. We'll see.

Re: The Erin Experiment

Just a little note:

I've been stretching my hips/legs a lot lately (since coming back from the KStar Seminar) and have been noticing some marked difference in my flexibility/ROM especially with regard to my typically tight calves and my right hip leading in front of my left hip. I've also, oddly enough, been somehow slapping my right leg into the back of my left heel (on the inside). I know this because it a) hurts when I do it and b) I'm actually a little bruised from doing it.

Now maybe I'm just imagining things but I think this could seriously be because I've changed the way I walk a little by all this stretching. My body's kind of having to relearn how to put one foot in front of the other appropriately. Heh. I've always been a bit of klutz but the fact that I've made it temporarily worse by walking the right way is hilarious to me.

Re: The Erin Experiment

it's amazing how much correct form in anything can feel awkward at first. I suppose a good way to look at it is like when i clean my room.... It somehow always gets more messy before it's finally clean. i have a couple of questions for ya.

I have a buddy how has a possible knee stabilization problem(?) when he squats. When he starts to come up from the bottom of his squat his knees move from over his feet inward. what's a good way to fix that? And can ROM affect that? thanks bud! Hope all is well!
