breathe restriction

hey, ive been doing a lot of ruck running lately, with great results. i tighten my ruck and weight vest pretty tight across my chest and stomach area and it restricts my breathing, especially when heaving/gasping for air. ive been wondering lately if restricting breathing during sprints/runs has any effects, and if so, are they positive or negative. does anyone have any insights and/or experience with this?

Sorry can't be of much help, I have found the same problem with rucking and the equipment we use in Australian Army (add to that my ruck, if not in the exact right spot cuts off the circulation in my left arm!). My guys have not been able to provide any bright info.

Only thing my Sergeant cam up with was to wear the heavy "webbing" bit down low so as to not restrict breathing.

What I have found though is my breathing muscle get are getting stronger with more rucking in full combat load, so maybe the secret is like they say, "to train for rucking the best training is rucking". Hope that is of some us.

I used to run a lot in boots and a weight vest before I injured my knee.

I noticed VAST improvements in my breathing both with my ability to breath well with the weight, and when I would run without the weight vest on.

I think your lungs have to work harder to inhale, which in turn, strengthens them.

Since I've stopped running in the weight vest, I'm still fast, but breathing is definitely harder for me to regulate than it was when I was used to running with the weight vest.
