This is a cool link to low-carb plans. http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-an...ans/index.html. I'm sad that the Paleo Diet isn't listed, though The Stone Age Diet (1958) is. Also interesting is William Banting's "Letter on Corpulence" (1864).

Oh, and here's a new company who says their high-protein "candy-like" substance (Power Bites) is better for you than existing carb-free candy made with sugar alcohols. http://www.betafoods.com/rockettoretail.htm.

Besides the nasty intestinal side-effects of sugar alcohols, anyone know of the chemical reasons behind them? (Robb?)

Sorbitol (which is used extensively in diabetic products) is poorly metabolized, particularly by diabetics. The sorbitol has a tendancy to increase the gate of glycosolation of proteins in the eye. Net effect? Acceleration of blindness.
