I just had to renew my subscription for the CF Journal. It’s been one year of doing CF and I feel like a new man. I am no more than an average athlete, age 40 with a wife, 3 babies, a mortgage, a schlep job, the whole 9 yards. I came into CF at 5’9” 245. I was a fairly strong power lifter but was woefully out of shape. My diet sucked. I couldn’t do more than 5 pull-ups and could not jog more than 400 meters without having to stop. My size 38 pants were too tight but I couldn’t get myself to buy size 40’s.

Anyway, I could go on and on but the proof is in the pudding. Here are the results from my last Barbara last September and the one we did today. Keep in mind I also ran 3 miles at lunch and did virtually all the pushups with one arm today due to an injury

Nothing earth shattering but it shows significant improvement particularly in my ability to recover from each set. My time stayed pretty consistent each set and my best set was the fourth set. This is a real testimony to the CF methods. By following the WOD as written and cleaning up my diet with a rudimentary Zone diet I have really transformed my level of fitness. I’m down to 210 and can squeeze into 34 jeans from when I first got married. Thanks Coach, Lauren and everyone else in the CF community could not have done it without your methods, encouragement and at time chastisements..

John, I can't believe it's been a year. I fondly remember the "smackdown" and you rising to the challenge. Great progress.

great job, John.

on a similar note, today's Barbara revealed my improvements, too. in just 4 months, i cut 3:52 off total work time and i considered myself pretty solid at PT-type stuff. plus, yesterday i PRd my C&J (w/ squat cleans...the bane of my existence) @170. CrossFit and the Zone really work!!

Good work Walshy!
Your postings usually liven up normally dull areas like Nutrition!
Way to win one for the big dogs!

. . .and you look great in a motorcikle helmet to boot!

Good work Walshy!

With your newfound fitness level maybe you could help out the Red Sox with their pitching difficulties.

Good stuff! I always like to see how my times compare against yours on the strength based WOD's, looks like I'll be keeping an eye on your bw performances too.

I agree with Ron, you can tell the weight has really come off from your previous avater!
