1" Climbing rope doable?

I found some 1" thick rope that I could get my hands on fairly cheep and I was wondering if anyone had used 1" rope as the standard seems to be 1.5" Thanks in advance.

Re: 1" Climbing rope doable?

One inch rope would be pretty burly. You sure you want to do that?

The most cost-effective solution is the DIY 1.5" rope from my article in the Journal. Some folks have even scored some used rope from their local climbing gym to use for this project, otherwise the materials are still pretty cheap at your local hardware store. The next step up in cost would be manila rope from any of several vendors.

Agreed, unless you have hands the size of a six year old, 1" rope is going to be a ***** to grip.

Looks like the "No's" have it. Lincoln, thanks for the DIY idea and link, I think I'll go that rout for now.

He's not a spammer. I know him personally & he does sell CrossFit equipment. His company is breaking the rules.

And he shouldn't be here trying to sell stuff. It's against site rules (wfs).

Re: 1" Climbing rope doable?

I opened a can of worms asking about rope?

In any case, I've tried Home Depot, True Value and Wal*mart as well as looked Rogue Fitness.

Seems like OP and myself as still in search of 1.5" rope?

Re: 1" Climbing rope doable?

We got our ropes from a place in Statham, Georgia (don't have the name). Wade is easy to work with, the 1.5" manila is $1.55 a foot and he'll put an eye splice in the end for an additional $5. Call to order 770.725.2424.
