Greetings everyone.

On my 38 th Birthday I made the commitment to get in top shape by 40. Off to the local gym I went (doh), where I paid for personal training for three months (doh) and received an introduction to the machines (doh). I had to tell my trainer I was interested in more diverse, applicable training, that I wasn't interested in sculpting muscles but wanted functional fitness. He seemed to take this as a personal challenge and I ended up hurting my back (doh) After about 8 months of this my wife discovered Crossfit. The rest, as they say, is history!
I have been doing modified Wods for about 4 months, three times a week. My wife and I have both completed the skill level one fitness requirements and are (slowly) working on level 2. We introduced CrossFit at our Karate club at both the Adult and Kid level, eliminating all other fitness training. The response has been overwhelming. The adults love it ( weight lose, strength increase, body reshaping) and there is no better sight then watching my 12 year old daughter fire out squats and push ups as the boys struggle to keep up.
Medicine balls have been ordered, rings bought, barbells scavenged, affiliate essay begun, and my wife and I will be attending the Cert in Toronto. Yeah CrossFit!
We took a trip to Hamilton on Friday to meet with Adam at www.steelcitycrossfit.com.
Pain Storm: for time
800m run
50 squats
50 push ups
50 sit ups
400m run
50 box jumps
50 push press
50 kettle bell swings
800m run
15 pull ups

28 min. I will be back next month to beat that time!

Thanks Adam, great facility, great people, and thanks for the squat tip.

Michael

Welcome Michael,

Good story, we'll see you at the TO cert. As someone who's only been doing this for a year, this is one of my favourite threads: "Things I wish I knew when I started CrossFit"

http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/21/27053.html

I see from your profile you live in Guelph. I used to live in Guelph, that would be a great town to do CF in, with all the parks and a very progressive, adaptable population.

Matt:

Good to hear you're opening up in Barrie, I will have to drop in sometime. You're on my way to Toronto.

Great Thread Robert Thanks for the heads up.

I agree. I think CrossFit will do well here. Like it does everywhere.

See you in Toronto

Michael,
Welcome and great start. Which Painstorm are you referring to above? Going through my records and can't find it. Of course there are large gaps in my memory as well as my records.

Hi Jeff, Is there a standard Painstorm Wod? I don't know where this version came from. Perhaps Adam just made one up. It sure was fun though.
