Paulo, thank you for reading, I truly hope you enjoyed it... That being said I could totally relate to how these flashbacks could be similar to PTSD.... I don't know how I feel reading about this tire thing now.

I'll agree with Paulo - you should be super grateful you didn't have to do tire jumps. Those are possibly my least favorite things. Your body will be able to do a lot more than your mind wants to do. Keep pushing yourself mentally. Focus on the movement you're doing at the moment and don't concern yourself with what's coming next. The next few weeks will bring you tremendous gains. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Lauren, I really look forward to meeting you. My goal now is to be able to come and survive, no more and no less. I don't think I want to do the tire jumps now, but knowing Rick for all of a day, I can tell they're in my near future. I will focus on the mental aspect, as that is what I feel I am lacking in most. Rick called me today and asked me not to come tonight because he will be away training elsewhere so I hope to see you Friday.

And yes, I agree, don't like the tire jumps! Especially jumping back into the tire when you've jumped out to the side of it. Super awkward with the tires he has, for some reason.
If three people tell me I should watch out for the tire jumps - this is making me feel kind of afraid now... I will keep coming and blogging however. Just the thing that I'm working with is this

I live in Sterling, VA and drive home for the weekends
During the week I stay in Staten Island, NY and work in Union, NJ

so the drive up to ultimate advantage adds a 3 hour commute at the end of my day. After Friday's squat show, I will have a 5.5 hour drive home... So if im not there every single day (and I really want to be) please understand and don't think badly of me. :-)

Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

BTW one thing I would like to mention now that it's been two days.

I'm certainly not new to squatting, I went from a 110lb back squat when starting CF to 270 now (still not much but just to give you a sense of how far I went) or deadlifting (no tested max when I started CF but pulled 200 in my first couple month) to 410 now (still not much but its all mie)

But back to the point - those banded speed squats made me sore in hip muscles I never known existed. **** got real when I had a hard time getting up out of bed today.

Just as a note - Rick is doing a training camp with some of the NY Giants today and therefore he wasn't able to be there.

He still invited me to come down in his absence but I have a few things to take care of as well so we just moved it to tomorrow.

Vlad, don't fear the tire jumps. Just go out and conquer them.

Paulo, I was just going to say the "Oh, hey, your affiliate is 15 minutes away from where I'm working, I wonder why I never stumbled upon it in my quest to choose an affiliate"

then I noticed that its a non-profit affiliate for SPD only.

Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

Now that it's summertime and I have some time off from work, I've been able to put in a lot more time training. In addition to hitting the weights four times a week, I've also added in more speed and footwork training.

This morning I worked out with two girls headed to D1 schools on soccer scholarships next year. Rick met us at the local park where we did some footwork drills then sprints. These girls are at the top of their game, but I was able to keep up with them. I know this is directly related to the biomechanical work Rick does with us. He examines every tiny detail and has us work on it until it is perfect. This morning, for example, Rick was having us shuffle through a set of hurdles then turn and sprint to the next set of hurdles. Sounds easy enough, but we were each doing it wrong. After breaking it down, we all mastered it. We each knew exactly when we "got it" because we couldn't help but explode out of the hurdle into the sprint.

As a final note, I started playing in a summer soccer league this week. It's been about two to three months since I last played. The next morning when Rick asked how I did, I told him, "My skills need some work, but I was running those ------- down!" Needless to say, he was not surprised. And it's all because of the speed, footwork, and biomechanical work. I'm faster now than I was in high school, BY FAR!

Absolutely. Focus on the next block of jumps, execute them, and move on to the next block. (We are making it out t be worse than it seems, promise!).
