Buying a Concept2 from a Globo Gym?

Has anyone ever tried calling up their local gyms and asked if they have any Concept2 rowers they were interested in selling them?

I have been looking on craigslist with no luck, so I was thinking of trying this out. I wanted to see if anyone on the here has ever tried/succeeded with it.

I know it's a long shot, but ya never know if you don't ask.

Somewhere on the C2 website you can see places in your area that have rowers. That would be a good place to start anyway. Good luck!

Re: Buying a Concept2 from a Globo Gym?

So I was going to start calling the gyms that were listed, but I am unsure of who to speak with. Anyone have recommendations?

Does the following sound like a good approach?

"I am outfitting my garage as a home gym, and I wanted to know if you have any Concept2 rowers you would be willing sell?"

Any advice/input is appreciated

I doubt they would sell it. Since the concept rower is gaining more and more status... Gyms would be looking to keep their clients happy verses losing them to a crossfit gym.

Your best bet would be to find an indoor rowering race and see if they are willing to unload those ones but don't think they are going to be heavily discounted either.

I probably wouldn't waste my time with gyms. I'm guessing there were quite a few hospitals, clinics, rehab/therapy places listed when you ran that search right? If so, contact as many as possible and simply tell them you are in the market for a used rower and to contact you if they ever upgrade or get rid of their current rowers. Most of these places have budgets which they must use for upgrading and keeping equipment current. You may even run into a place that has a few in storage due to space issues.

Re: Buying a Concept2 from a Globo Gym?

@Frank, a friend of mine told me the Life asRx event that is going on in August sells them after their event, but the difference from a new one is only 40 bucks.

@Chris, I will go this route and hopefully make some progress.

Thanks for the responses

Cody, Greg here from Concept2. I would start with rowing clubs and universities. They tend to turn over their rowers faster than globo gyms. they might not look pretty but as you know they are pretty bullet proof and you can fix most things cheap. Just Google rowing clubs in your area and you might get lucky. Hope this helps.

Re: Buying a Concept2 from a Globo Gym?

Greg,

I was able to talk with one club about a Model C, but they were fixed on a $500 price point. So that is one possible route, but at that price I would be more tempted to buy a new Model D. xD

http://www.row2k.com/classifieds/classifieds.pl

Row2k is where my team buys our equipment. They have classifieds for ergs (rowers) as well. Best of luck!
