Preparing new horse stall mats for use

I would appreciate any input on how to best get new horse stall mats ready for use. I have spoken with a few affiliates that said it is vital to power wash and let sit outside for a period of time in order to eliminate (somewhat) the smell. Does anyone have any experience/ suggstions on this- and also if the cold weather could have any impact on them (being wet)
Thanks-

we didn't do anything. just layed them out and started WODs. It does smell like rubber but that will take a long time to go away if it does at all.

We did the same. Just laid them down and went to work. They work great. We put them down in August and you can still smell them a little but oh well. They are definitely a great investment that's for sure.

Same as above. Didn't wash them. Laid them down and went to work.

They are rubber, thus, smell like rubber. Beats the smell of horse $h1T!

Re: Preparing new horse stall mats for use

There are 2 Tractor Supply stores near me. One of them stores thier mats outside and the other inside (year round). I'm going on Friday to get the mats (36 of them!) and I'll go to the one that stores outside hoping the smell won't be as strong.

I don't think it will make much of a difference, but maybe a little. So, you may want to call around and find out .... you know they go on sale for Black Friday right?

Re: Preparing new horse stall mats for use

Thanks for the feedback everyone - much appreciated. Looks like the way to go might be to just lay them out and get going- sounds great to me.
@Helen- the rubberman had set me up with a very good deal a couple weeks ago, so I hadnt even considered any Black Friday specials- thanks for bringing that up I will certainly look into it.
