it's not embarassment - there are very important parts down there and I'd rather not have 155# sitting on them ... well, not in the form of a BB and plates!

To the OP re: Foam Pad ...

I used one in HS before I knew what a squat really was. I also used to pin the bar against the vertical rails of the rack to help slide the bar up and down .... omg - where were the coaches??? lol

Anyways - put the bar on your back and squat it. You don't want anything making you unstable or giving your body feedback other than the bar.

I'de be tipping that you would want the bar more on your hips than the groin (aka man bits).

It's uncomfortable for men or women because it digs into your hips and hits nerve centers. But it shouldn't be resting anywhere near your important bits and is generally bridging them anyway due to your legs.

I'll go against the tide here-

Louis would probably advocate rotating in the maxi pad (just as he does the manta ray) from time to time on an ME day, or even for a 3 week cycle of DE box squats. Because it's different.

But that's a bit advanced for the original poster. You should use a low bar back squat and hold the bar right and realize that even a skinny like you won't have a problem.

I only use it for hip thrusts too.

I get knots in my traps and standing up under max weights to squat actually feels really good.

I remember when I first started front squatting and my chest was so boney I had to use a towel but you get used to the bar really quick.
