Re: What's so dumb about curls?

I'll never get tired of seeing people claim that they don't CF to look good.

I'll say it. I CF to look good. And i do curls, to look good.

I stopped the strict globo stuff because i've been doing it for years and it got boring. Plus it really wasn't helping me in other aspects of my life (mountain biking, running, etc.)

When CF'ers start demonizing things like curls and self appearance is when CF starts to get a bad name. JMHO

Long before I CF'd I didn't "exercise" for looks. I always did it so I could run faster and lift heavier than my friends since I was always one of the slowest and the weakest. Nothing has changed. I still don't do WODs to look good, only to perform well.

I do recognize the curl as an assisted exercise you would do once in a while, but definitely not every workout. I personally don't do them though, since to my own assessment I have not reached the point where they would really contribute anything.

Plus, your last name is Arms, so curls are kind of a requirement

Yeah tell me that's not some pressure.

And for the record i'm not saying that i do curls everyday. I was just saying that I enjoy looking good, even if that is taboo.

I enjoy looking good. I sure as hell do not CF to look good. If my goal was appearance, I'd being doing something that was a lot easier, and I'd spend a lot less time doing it. I played competitive soccer for 17 years, and I looked good. The idea that I would play soccer in order to look good is just totally laughable to me...same with CF. I CF because I consider it my sport. I train to compete, whether it be 5 times a week during a WOD or at Sectionals or Regionals or wherever. I CF because I love it.

I don't have a problem if people CF in order to look good. But, that is not the reason that everyone does it.

Re: What's so dumb about curls?

So if curls are okay, I suppose the typical mantra of regular curls, reverse curls, hammer curls, concentration curls, preacher curls, etc. for 3 sets of 10-12 reps might not be the most efficient.

What are some of you suggesting? 3x5?

One all out set of rest pause to 18 or so reps of pinwheel curls.

This would be a little easier to believe if your avatar hadn't always been you taking a picture of yourself in a bikini.

If this were true, you wouldn't see people training shirtless and women training in essentially bikinis. There's nothing wrong with it, other than the hypocritical attitude toward bodybuilding and aesthetics.
