If your just buying 1 or 2 kettlebell and med ball

hi all,

new to crossfit and loving it.

i would like to purchase 1 or 2 kettle bells and perhaps a medicine ball.

what weight(s) are typically needed to do the WOD as rx'd

For a while, all you really saw for KBs in the Crossfit workouts were 1 pood (approx. 36lb) and 1.5 pood (approx 53lb) kettles... lately though, they seem to be throwing the Big Dog at us (2 pood, about 72lbs).

I would say definitely get the 1.5 pood... I think you'll get the most use out of it. As for a 2nd... do what you feel... I'd probably go heavier....

with a limited budget i bought a 1 pood kb (which has been fine since i'm a beginner) and the 20# dynamax ball which i use quite often as part of the wod either for wall ball or just for ensuring squat depth. the med balls don't seem to come up much on the wod.

I would make a medicine ball. Can make them super cheap and in any and all weights you want. Might not work for squat depth target like a dynamax but oh well... learn to judge depth without it. There's plans somewhere on here about make a slammer. I made one following those plans and it's 22lbs and we've been slamming the crap out of it with no issue. You could also get dumbells instead of kettlebells and do everything needed for a WOD. Again, you could get more variety for your money that way. Unless you find some KB's locally for the same price as dumbells like I did... heh

I only have a 40 lb kettlebell, and 53 Kettlebell, And got a basketball and put sand inside and is my wallball, slam ball, etc. If you can't only buy 2 kettlebells, buy a 35 # and 53, DON'T buy a 72. If you have never used them you will not be strong enough and you wont get the most out of them, the 1 pood and 1.5 pood combo will do good, after a while when you get strong enough buy it, but right now don't do it.
