Re: What the heck did I pull, and how do I make it stop hurting?

It's probably not the rhomboids if a rib was dislocated (dislocated popped out & has to be manually put back, subluxated = popped out & back in). I don't think you need to do work on these unless your posture is just bad, heh.

She say which muscle(s) it was that dislocated the rib? And which ribs it was? Well, not that that matters too much. You might wanna schedule an appointment for a PT clinic that does manual therapy (unless the chiro does it too).

You need to get some massage, heat and stretching to the muscles that are tight.

She didn't say which rib or what muscles, just that I was really tight. Did Stem and ice, which I thought was odd- usually you heat before an activity, ice after (in my experience).
Roger on the heat/massage/stretch though.

Okay, well generally you do ice if (1) there's swelling, or (2) it's a tendon, ligament or bone injury.

But otherwise you do heat especially if it's a muscular tightness like that. Ice will just makes the muscle contract and lockdown tighter... so why the chiro did that confuses me as well, heh.

Question Re: What the heck did I pull, and how do I make it stop hurting?

Trying to bring this thread back because it is so similar to an ongoing issue I am having.

I suffered what was initially diagnosed as a subluxated shoulder playing rugby 3 years ago; The 5th PT guy I went to did a much more thorough physical exam and concluded that I had actually dislocated my Thoracic 4-5-6 ribs. He gave me a couple stretches and was doing manipulation and physical therapy work with me but my insurance ran out (no more PT for me for 12 months)

I am trying to strengthen it and keep it loose, but I am having alot of pain and tightness in the rhomboid area.

I have been running/lifting/oly-lifting for years, and crossfitting for a few months now. I am trying to learn the kip, a new move for me, and notice what feels like my arm dropping out of the socket when I do it.

2 Questions:

1. What can I do to stretch and strengthen the area?

2. Is there anyway to get the ribs back into the correct position, or even know if they are or not there?

Cheers
