IF feeding/fasting windows

Am I right in understanding that fasting generally lasts anywhere from 12-21 hours and feedings can last anywhere from 4-10 hours in between fasts? And during the feedings I would eat whatever my normal volume would be for the entire day?

You got it! Read Robb Wolf site well and also the performance menu site has tons of info on IF--specific threads devoted to it!!

Re: IF feeding/fasting windows

Tim there are also people who do variations of this, such as a full 24 hour fast, followed by a full 24 hour feeding window (where you would eat 2 days worth of food). That seems pretty difficult, so if you're anything like me you'd probably get better mileage out of the method you described. When I was doing it, I had 19 hour fasts and 5 hour feeds, but it took me about a week to get into the groove with it.

There is also some interesting stuff about overall caloric restriction from time to time (thinking Evolutionary Fitness here). I think Devany said that he's calculated that most of our hunter gatherer ancestors were in a caloric deficit about 1/3 of the time, other times they were right at maintenance, and occasionally well above maintenance levels.

Lot of people like a 4-6 hour feed window. I would vary IF though, to make it intermittent-Intermittent Fasting. I am always in favor of keeping the body guessing (IF, CF etc.)
