Hello from Swede beginner, and quitting cigarettes

Hi everyone!

I've been dabbling with the Crossfit WOD and methods for about a month, so it's about time to delurk.

I'm a 26y old male from Sweden in Europe. I trained for a few months before Crossfit but was never really serious. After I started w/ CF I changed my diet to low carb and healthier real food. Beginning this morning I have also quit smoking. 5+ years of lung problems and money down the drain...enough.

I want to thank Coach and the rest for all the great ideas, the WOD, instructions and the wonderful posters on the board.

Hoping to get to know you all, and any swedes especially!

Johan Edström

p.s If anyone else out there are giving up cigarettes now or have quit I would REALLY like to hear from you (support; sharing)

Re: Hello from Swede beginner, and quitting cigarettes

Johan, there isn't anything you can do to serve your future and your health more than quitting smoking, so GOOD FOR YOU!

The trick to beating the habit is to take it one nicotine craving at a time. If you can just get through them one by one, they will go away. A craving is like a wave, it builds, crests, then dissipates if you don't satisfy it. I used to close my eyes and do deep breathing during my cravings, looking for all the world like a woman breathing through a birth pain. (Giving birth was easier!)

Hallå där, Johan. I'm new to CrossFit too, and I just quit smoking about a month ago. It gets a little worse at first, and then it gets better. You'll probably feel ill, somethign like bronchitis for a little while, then your lungs will fully rebound and you'll be alright.

Re: Hello from Swede beginner, and quitting cigarettes

all for welcoming me, and thank you Susie for the links!

I'm trying to keep busy and avoid stress. Haven't really had any cravings yet, though it's only 17 hours since my last smoke

Congrats on quitting smoking. I think doing something difficult like that will be a perfect way to develop a strong outlook towards tackling the WODs. Best of luck

Re: Hello from Swede beginner, and quitting cigarettes

I did my second workout today after quitting. Breathing was really easy! That used to be what stopped me going harder. Now it's more a question of avoiding joint/muscle overload. Esp. pullups (shoulder/elbow) !

Scaled.
4 rounds:
200m run
10 dumbell swings at 22p
4 pullups
Time: 11min

Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS on quitting smoking. I know its hard just to get as far as you have, keep it up. I have been trying for years. Almost quit about a month ago but, relapsed. I need to set another date to quit soon!
