Probably a simple question, but I can't find it addressed in the archives or any sites I've Googled.

What is the length of the grip area on a 5 foot olympic bar?

Thanks,

Brody.

Brody,

I dont think there is a standard answer here. It would depend on the manufacturer. I have seen several "short" bars that have pretty standard collar lengths, so the grip area is very short.

On my bars, the "grip" area is the same on EVERY bar, all the way from the 5kg aluminum bar up to the 20kg mens bar. My 10kg junior bar is 67 inches, with 6 3/8 inch sleeves and thin collars. The shorter sleeves are neccessary to bring the bar in at exactly 10kg yet still leave a standard length for the bar shaft and "grip" area.

Glenn
