I know that Pukie is the mascot but...

Do people really puke after WODs? If so, doesn't that concern anyone?

I'm not trying to be soft but puking seems to be clear indication that things aren't right.

Also, I'm a little concerned that I'll have to heave and have nowhere to heave.

Don't mock me please.

I hear repetitive bouts of puking can be bad for the enamel on your teeth.

We never mock around here....just mild public humiliation!

I am guessing you found a previous thread on this topic but I just wanted to say that no one goes out looking to throw-up (I think) but if one is pushing it can really sneak up on you. Frequently I will feel reasonably ok during the WO but pretty bad afterwards. Not trying to, it just happens.

Working till you puke is not something that you should strive for every day. . . but if you don't get really close (or actually puke), then you don't know your limit.

An athlete has got to know where the limit is so he can push it on a regular basis, occasionally crossing it.

I have never (yet) actually puked from a workout. I have come close. I hope to keep it that way.

I would guess that about once every month or two, I end up pushing hard enough that it becomes a distince possibility that I'm going to heave. I usually back off a bit at that point . . . I hate throwing up. Sometimes I know I'm going to push to that edge, sometimes the edge turns out to be closer than I thought.

Like Jeremy, ideally, I think you need to push it really hard at least once or twice a month. Pushing hard on a "metabolic burnout" kind of workout will probably produce a "near occasion of Pukie" (to paraphrase my religous training). It doesn't happen for me with a max effort on a "focus day" . . . only the "row 500 m/200 thrusters/50 burpees, repeat 10 times" kind of WODs.

Puking sneaks up on me, in regards to physical exertion. The last time I got the dry heaves was a few years ago, and it was after a preparation workout for a stongman contest. My training partner and I hit some regular weight work, then went out into the parking lot and did some tire flipping and some barrel loading. I went back inside to get my farmers bars, so we could work on that, and carrying the farmers bars in a duffel bag up 2 flights of stairs was just enough to start giving me the dry heaves a few steps out the door.

The thought of puking is revolting to me (I often feel like puking, but actually do it is another matter). It just can't be good for you. And it reminds me of bulimia.
