17 Yr. Old., 300 lb. Overhead Squat PR

Darian Barnett set a new 300 lb. PR for his overhead squat at a body weight of 165 lbs. and 17 yr. old.

He did this last year at a body weight of 198 lbs., 16 yr. old and did 295 lbs.

He has since dropped over 30 lbs. and has added 5 lbs. to his OH Squat. So far he's on track with his training this year and should be ready for the Europa Powerlifting meet in April 2011.

His goal is to compete in the 161 lb. class and break the current APF records.

See his OH Squat PR here:

Before and after photos are attached of his weightloss. He went from 198 lbs. at the beginning of summer to his current weight of 165 lbs. in 4 months.

I'm guessing here cubby cubby was a flirtatious joke from and older girl to a young athlete. I could be wrong, but that's what I derived from the post.

What did he do to cut his fat and keep his strength numbers up?

Started following a Paleo style diet. Cut out all processed foods, sugars and junk in his diet. Increased his protein and fat intake and made sure he was getting in atleast 5-6 meals per day. He added more conditioning work than what he had been doing with his powerlifting program. Some CrossFit, strongman conditioning and moderate jogging each night.

Anyway, awesome transformation though! Great work coach. Goes to show you that you can lose a lot of fat and still improve performance. Keep it up.

Re: 17 Yr. Old., 300 lb. Overhead Squat PR

If anyone is interested I have attached a copy of Darian's first 7-Week Training Program. After this he will have more 9-Week Training Programs to complete. We did these same programs last year before the APF meet at the Europa Show of Champions and he broke all four records in the 198 lb. class 14-15 yr. old class.

This 7-Week Program is kind of a primer to get him prepared for the next 18 weeks of training. Those 18 weeks will have more band and chain training involved as well as more strongman type training (Stones, Yoke, truck pull/push & Farmer Carries) & Oly Lifting.

If the file does not show up you can send me an email at crossfittb@yahoo.com and I'll forward it to you.

Very impressive. He is surely on his way to do great things as an athlete. His name will be heard.

Is it okay if I share his 7 week program on another forum I'm a part of?

Thanks for the compliment and you're welcome to share his program. Maybe it can help someone else.
