Hello from the Crossfit-less Alabama!

Hello everyone. My name is Sean and I just joined your forum the other day. My brother and I both stumbled upon your site (me looking for how to build a lifting platform, him looking for gymnastic type training)and quickly became very interested. I am 20 years old and have been weight training powerlifter/bodybuilder style for a few years now. I just got off a winter bulk that left me with a little more bodyfat than I'd like to have. I am currently:

Height- 5'8"
Weight- 185 lbs
BF %- 17-19% (goal is 10%)

This has left me with a decent amount of muscle, but no functional strength. Can barely crank out 8 pullups, and wouldn't dare try a muscle up in public.

My goals are to get as lean as possible this summer, while maintaining as much muscle mass as possible...I do not expect to add muscle this time of year. I eat fairly healthy. Lots of chicken, fish, and veggies. Only whole wheat breads and fat free or skim dairy products. Eat black olives, cashews and walnuts for my healthy fats. I originally started to try and loose fat the beginning of this year, and lost 15-18 lbs. But recently my fat loss has slowed to a halt and I kept cutting my cals down to near 1600-1700 cals where I feel like I was starving myself. Now I am back up to 1800-2100 a day and hope that this high intensity training will make up for my extra caloric intake and still put me in a caloric deficit. Please if you have any information that will help me reach my goals it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I actually live in Alabaster, just south of Birmingham. Today's workout was a killer! Had to drop about 50 lbs off the bench...lol

Re: Hello from the Crossfit-less Alabama!

Hey Guys,

I live out in Seattle, but my wife and I are originally from Birmingham. I train out of Crossfit Eastside...whose owner is a Selma native. He and I discussed the dearth of CF in Birmingham, and he suggested that I contact Nicole from CF-Santa Cruz to find out if anybody has recently applied for affiliation in Birmingham.

I'll let you know what I find out. I've show such remarkable improvement in fitness doing this for about 4 months, that my brother (another B-ham native) is very interested in getting involved.

You guys should convert a garage in the meantime.

BTW, I did a few workouts at the Gold's Gym in the Colonade (sp?). They seemed to be pretty cool with the whole thing, though they don't have bumper plates for any of the Oly lifts.

Mark...Do you have a time frame? I am currently working out in my garage in Homewood. A group would be nice for motivation.

Not familiar with Alabama, but you list Birmingham under your name. From the crossfit homepage you can get a list of all affiliates.

Crossfit Birmingham : wfs http://crossfitbirmingham.ning.com/

There are also affiliates in Mobile and Montgomery.
