Diabetic Dude's Success

I posted this in the nutrition area too, but afterward I thought it deserved to be here.

Well, my dreams are coming true. I am a 26 yr old, diagnosed as a type I diabetic and was taking about 5 units of humalog each meal and 15 units of lantus in the evening... fast forward to now with my Zone based diet and CF and BJJ physical training and...KAZAAM! I'm now only taking 15 units of lantus in the evening, that's it!!! Not bad in my book. I may not be a typical diabetic but for the others out there work hard and keep the faith. Thanks to all on these boards who are fountains of knowledge and experience. I look forward to developing my CF skillz and opening a gym of my own soon. Thanks everyone.

Mikey

Eric, you wouldn't happen to be from Yuba City would you? I grew up with a dude named Eric Lester. Thanks for the reply.

What are your blocks like? I'm really curious how limited your carb intake is if you're taking no insulin for meals.

Re: Diabetic Dude's Success

I've been following the books recipes for the most part, a tuna salad with a quarter of a canteloupe, or salmon, greenbeans and about a handful + of grapes... I enjoy the recipes, not to mention the whole not having to stab myself in the stomach thing. I'm getting plenty of carbs, but as I said before, I may not be a normal diabetic, but I am enough of one to be medically discharged from teh army for it. I'm gonna keep spreading the word though. My life is changing for the better.

Re: Diabetic Dude's Success

As of 3 weeks ago, we've got a group of 5 people started in the Yuba City & Marysville area of CA. Getting wierd looks from the body-builders at this gym "Future Fitness", but that's not stopping us having fun. Anyone else in the Yuba City, CA area please feel free to stop by on a Mon/Wed/Fri evening around 7-8pm & join the fun!
