What if your hand is too small to touch your thumb?

My thumb gets twisted in a bad way when I try the hook grip. I might be doing it incorrectly, but it doesn't seem very technical... I'm just complaining :-)

Then you must be an orangutan.

Which hand is yours?

HAHA...ok, I'm not sure what's more scary that his hand can't close, or that Lincoln knew where to go for that picture so fast.

Er..I notice neither hand shows
a hook grip being used. My experience has been
that the more you use the hook grip, the less
it hurts over time.

Also, as an add-on to this topic - Tommy Kono's
recommendation is to use the hook only for the
heavier loads in order to work the grip strength
during the lighter training. Any comments on this?

Tommy Kono had already learned the hook grip when he wrote that piece of advice.

I figure that once someone has learned to comfortably deadlift with a hook grip the same amount of weight that Kono could clean & jerk, then I have no problem with them using their discretion on whether or not to hook. Until that day, they should hook.
