Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

Go Samantha, my ultimate goal was/is 30 days w/o ANY sugar.
did 8 then day 9(fri night) I slipped bad but not super horrible.
going for 30 again, but i will go to the 14th too.

Those 8 days were great each day getting better, leaner, stronger, faster

Brian, I will let you know how its going. I am going to start measuring closer on Mon. for now focus on 0 sugar & not eat 50 blocks of fat

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

Fell off the wagon in a big way last night, but I blame it on the wife. She wanted to make a chocolate brownie dessert for "family night", and I used to love this. I mean, it was chocolate. Anyway, I ate mine and I wasn't content at all. I felt guilty, but it just didn't taste as good as it used to. I've only been trying to watch my sugar and grain intake for a short while, but I was surprised. In my head, I actually wanted some grapes.

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

Thanks for starting this thread! It will be great to share experiences with and learn from all of you. I started strict Paleo - no grains, no sugar, no potatoes or beans - about a week ago. Surprisingly I had no trouble this week! I have tried the Zone in the past and found I was too hungry on it and I did not like all the counting it required. I love that about Paleo- no counting I feel great eating this way and have had no major cravings or hunger. Quite frankly I am shocked!

I do cheat a few things- I have an occassional diet coke All those chemicals are NOT Paleo. Also I eat things like turkey bacon and smoked fish (I am quite sure these are not strict Paleo).

Lastly I found these crackers for raw food people. They have no grains - here are the ingredients: golden flax seed (sprouted and ground), pumpkin seeds (sprouted), roma tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, carrots, yellow onion, garlic, basil, red and green bell peepers, Italian Seasoning, paprika, oregano, olive oil, sea salt, lemon juice. These things ROCK and might be helpful to those of you craving grains.

Here is a typical day for me-

Breakfast - 1 egg + egg whites, turkey bacon, 2 clemintine oranges

Lunch - ~4 oz Salmon, 6 flax crackers, large salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, red/green peppers, red onion, a few kalamata olives, and lemon juice and olive oil dressing

Dinner - 4-6 oz chicken cooked in a pan with olive oil, garlic, onion, and green/red peppers, served with guac and salsa on top + another large salad with raw veggies and topped with more guac and 1 tsp olive oil and lemon juice. If I have a sweet craving I will have 3 or 4 dates for dessert.

I rarely feel hungry enough to snack on this kind of food but if I need a snack I'll have a piece of fruit (typically apple or pear) and a few almonds or mac nuts.

Sorry for the long ramble. I just wanted to share my experience so far. What does a typical day look like for the rest of you?

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

I was doing good this week until last night! I was at a weekly group of friends that meets on Saturday night and my wife brought cheese, pepperoni & crackers and chocolate/coconut cookie squares. So good but so bad!

Then we forgot to take chicken out of the freezer today so we ordered Chinese.

I have to pick it back up tomorrow!

Breakfast: green smoothie (spinach, frozen banana, 1/2 c blueberries, soy protein powder), 8 or 9 almonds

Lunch: huge green salad with tons of veggies and baked tofu/tempeh/seitan/plain soybeans on top (or leftovers from dinner)

Snack: edamame, a few almonds, piece of fruit

Dinner: veggie burger wrapped in lettuce, big salad, steamed broccoli
or
seitan stir fry (no rice)
or
eggplant "lasagna" with tofu ricotta (eggplant slices take the place of pasta)

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

Hey guys! I made it through the weekend with no damage. I am so excited! This weekend coming up has got me worried. Big party with all my friends. There will be tons of food and booze. Any ideas for a healthy/paleo recipe for a good appetizer to bring (no sugar/ no grains of course)?

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

I've been pretty good since starting this actually on Dec. 29, the day after my bday. I did have some bbq sauce and honey-mustard dressing over the weekend; didn't realize how much HFCS is in bbq sauce; ugh!

But NO desire to eat the crazy looking delicious homemade cheesecake at my office today, and that's awesome.

I allow myself some beers, and creamer in my coffee; so that's not "cheating" to me.

Otherwise, keep up the good work folks! Just say no!

Re: No Grains/No Sugars Support Group!!

Well, Kerry and I have been pretty darn clean since Jan 2nd. We have a small but of Splenda in our coffee in the morning, but that's been it. We had a few beers this weekend, but no harm done. We're going strong other than that. No grains/ No sugars!
