Talk about functional fitness being applied in everyday life. Yesterday, I think it just might have saved my life.

So there I was, kayaking down the Kasilof River (alaska) when my partner tips his kayak. He stays with it and gets ahold of another guy in our group and we all get to shore and get him squared away. Well when we push back into the river, I bumped something and get turned around and heading downriver backwards. I can't get turned around for the life of me. My boat hits a small tree sticking out into the river and the stern got sucked underneath, ripping me out. I ended up pinned underwater in between the kayak and the tree. Talk about the most important push press of my life. Then hanging onto the kayak with one arm, stidestroked it back to the edge. There was a lot of adrenaline there, but I know there was a lot of Crossfit behind it too!

I lost my favorite hat, my glasses and my padded ended up stuck in a tree, but I saved the kayak and most importantly, ME.

Re: Crossfit saved my life

Happy to see you're still with us!!
I tell my wife that I train for the fight of my life, and will win when the day comes. I tell her I train so that I can protect my son, daughter, and her.
Thanks for the story...too bad about the stuff...but it's just stuff...
