Sled options

I have two sources of materails to build sleds.
1) an almost unlimited supply of free tires
2) a friend who owns a metal fabricating shop

I would like to build some sleds for my athletic team. We have around 20 athletes male and female; ages from 12 to 18.

For me to build the metal sleds, I would need to learn how to cut and weld, so it would take more time than just using the tires.

Should I go for the tire sleds? or should I put in the extra time and fabricate some steel sleds?

Re: Sled options

If all you are going to use the sleds for is pulling, save the time and learning curve and just use tires. Most tire shops will probably give them to you. But if you want something to push and pull then you want to model your sled like the EliteFTS Prowler 2 or Gilman Gear's King Crab sled.

I would probably make about 10 tire sleds and then build 2-4 sleds to push/pull for variety.
