Re: Deadlift Form
It looks to me like your butt is too high. Drop that down and really focus on activating your hamstrings & glutes. That will take some of the work off of your lower back.

Re: Deadlift Form
I want more of your shoulders behind the bar then over the bar for the start. That will probably help get your butt down a little too. I agree that you might be starting just a tad high.
Also, getting more of your upper body back and your butt down will help get your knees out of the way. |

Re: Deadlift Form
Sorry guys, I disagree. I think too many people try and squat their deadlifts. I think his hips are in a pretty good spot. If we were talking cleans, I would agree that he should be more upright with his hips down.

Re: Deadlift Form
I feel his hip height is on the border. I think it is more important to get more of his upper body behind the bar. This will help leverage against the weight. A byproduct of getting more of his upper body behind the bar might be a slightly lower hip starting position.
A question Carson has to ask himself is where does he get power out of his hips and legs? If we tell him to put his hips down more to start, then when he really starts to pull, his hips shoot up and then the weight moves, then he is starting too low. If we tell him to put his hips down more to start, and as he pulls his hips and shoulders elevate at virtually the same rate, then this might be a good position. |

Re: Deadlift Form
I'm very surprised by some of the comments on here. Your form looks very solid if we compare it to this video of a world record holder who almost deadlifts 5 times his weight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ5rY_beDLY SFW

What surprises?
Sounds like we just offered some minor tweaks. |

Re: Deadlift Form
Your form is good. People around here tend to forget that the DL is a lower back exercise first. Much lower and it starts turning into a leg exercise.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-h8dpr01Q1s Watch where he pulls from, not where he starts from, but his position as the plates leave the floor. Once you get more comfortable and you begin to learn how you like to stretch before a lift, you can do all kinds of different things also. But you dont pull 985 pounds without it being the most anatomically correct way possible. He is strong as hell, but without his form he couldnt pick that up. |
