How do you log Crossfit workout in Myfitnesspal?
Hi - I have a thread over on the nutrition section, and some users recommend that I use Myfitnesspal on my iphone to track calories and workouts.
How do you log a crossfit workout in the exercise tracker? Do you generalize (for example - 250 cals for a light WOD, 350 for a moderate, and 450 for a long WOD,) or do you enter: 100 pushups 100 situps 100 squats etc? Thanks! |

That's a tough one because it's going to be a guess. Perhaps just "high intensity cardio" for X minutes. X is the time it took to complete your wod.
So 5 minutes, or 15, depending on length of WOD. Treat the "warm up" etc as a bonus calorie deficit that makes up for any overage errors (in exercise or eating). It's all an intelligent guess too - even when wearing a HRM, it'll just be a closer guess. |

Don't log your exercise in a program. Use myfitnesspal for your food log only.
There is no application that is going to tell you with any degree of certainty how many calories you've burned. The activity level is one aspect, however if the weights are heavy enough, it's possible to burn more calories over 24hrs with a heavy strength day, vs. a short AMRAP. |

Re: How do you log Crossfit workout in Myfitnesspal?
MFP isn't equipped to handle Crossfit schemes. I emailed them about a few movements and they basically (very politely) said if they can't reasonably determine the calories burned by a specific movement, they won't include it. Their food database is sketchy at-best anyway. It's full of user-submitted stuff and half the time I would scan a label and it would come up slightly different than the macros/calories on the label in my hand.

I know what you mean, but it's not that difficult to overcome and other databases have the same problem. I also found that overtime, I'd add my own food entries (and not submit to increase the aforementioned formula) . Because I'm a creature of habit .... I'd be logging and re-logging those same entries over and over. Even "copy meal". So eventually, the instances of WTF is this that someone added decreases. |
