FYI for those that don't know most of the last two pages come from recent posts on Mark's Q&A Forums:

Thought I would add one that was not from ************. At a barbell cert I recently attended someone asked"
"If you had to choose between wearing no shoes or running shoes to lift in which would you pick?" Rip's response: "That is like asking me to choose between stabbing myself in the eye with a fork or burning the roof of my mouth with extremely hot pizza. Can't we just avoid both?" |

I have no idea why people avoid the clean as much as they do. Yeah, if you want to compete, you need a coach. If you are just going to do cleans for the training affect, just do them. WHy is everyone affraid?

long one from a cfj
"Anyone who says that full squats are “bad for the knees” has, with that statement, demonstrated conclusively that they are not entitled to an opinion about the matter. People who know nothing about a topic, especially a very technical one that requires specific training, knowledge, and experience, are not due an opinion about that topic and are better served by being quiet when it is asked about or discussed. For example, when brain surgery, or string theory, or the NFL draft, or women’s dress sizes, or white wine is being discussed, I remain quiet, odd though that may seem. But seldom is this the case when orthopedic surgeons, athletic trainers, physical therapists, or nurses are asked about full squats." |

Quite a lot of us don't really see what they do that speed deadlifts don't.

Re: Classic Rip (collection of quotes, many hilarious, many NOT w/f/s)
In terms of power output (dramatically increased range of motion), coordination (timing of the shrug, 'jump,' catch), and the functionality of the movement, I'd say there's plenty to be said for the clean as its own movement. I'm personally finding that, after almost a year of fearing them, I like the component of skill they demand, and I'm looking forward to getting to an oly workshop to improve them.

Let's get this thread back on track:
Anyone who says that full squats are "bad for the knees" has, with that statement, demonstrated conclusively that they are not entitled to an opinion about the matter. People who know nothing about a topic, especially a very technical one that requires specific training, knowledge, and experience, are not due an opinion about that topic and are better served by being quiet when it is asked about or discussed.
