"I heard that Rip invented the Smith machine as a clever way to keep idiots out of the squat rack."

Interestingly, the guy that actually did invent the Smith machine is tougher than Rip.

Care to expound, or are you a troll looking to start a flame war?

"The full squat is a perfectly natural position for the leg to occupy. That's why there's a joint in the middle of it, and why humans have been occupying this position, both unloaded and loaded, for millions of years. Much longer, in fact, than quasi-intellectual morons have been telling us that it's "bad" for the knees."

Jack LaLanne developed the initial concept of the Smith machine.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a troll and I don't know what a "flame war" is. Jack LaLanne invented to Smith Machine (or at least developed the concept). And Jack LaLanne is (at least arguably) the toughest man who ever lived. I just find that fact to be somewhat ironic. Also, given that real fact, I find the fake Rip fact about the Smith machine to be somewhat ironic as well. Don't be so defensive.

I was not being defensive. I was just asking you to substantiate a claim that you made. You are a new member, and new members on message boards sometimes just look to stir things up (trolling). To say that the Smith Machine inventor is tougher than Rip without any substantiation is a good way to start a flame war.

That said, Jack LaLanne was an amazing athlete in his day. It is unforunate that he is advocating substandard movements on his website today.

Jack LaLanne is arguably just one of the many people that Chuck Norris hasn't killed yet.
