http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliud_Kipchoge

Check out this guy he dominated the CrossFit workout from April 8th (sub 13:00) it says nothing about him doing CrossFit in his training regime. Maybe CrossFit is not the way to go after all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hossein_Rezazadeh

And this guy crushed the workout from April 9th (263 kg). I don't think he CrossFit's either. How can these guys beat us at our own game?

Almost every CF women in all the videos are wearing them. Think female yoga/workout pants that are extremely overpriced.

Can we move on now?
Sean, you know we cannot move on from such an important topic. These kind of topics rarely come up and need to be discussed.

Agree with Sean. Spencer and Rob are both beastly men. Lets leave it at that.

You mean periodized strength training & Olympic weightlifting training can make you better at CrossFit? That is shocking news and has never been mentioned on these message boards before. Let's dig deep into this, I'm sure we'll emerge with a new consensus.

Sarcasm detectors: beeping. wildly. Can't we all just enjoy something without getting into What It All Means? Or not.

That's the problem. There's such pride here in being a jack of all trades, master of none. But your videos doing grace will never be circulated on forums..

Dan gable
Michael Jordan
Mike Tyson
Jesse owens

We all know these guys. Absolute gods in one thing.
But do you mean to tell me These guys can't function in normal life. Who gives a **** what Michael Jordan's Fran time would be?!?

The crossfitter who succeed in the games DO specialize in one thing. That's why they win. Watch their performances and look for their specialization. You will find it.

Not specializing in anything is accepting mediocrity
Yeah say that when you win 250,000 for being mediocre. Also I do think strength is a specialization because it takes years to build its not an accident.

Google Caleb Ward does a backflip, he is shorter then Spencer but he was a super heavy lifter and backflips with ease.

Re: 300 lb Grace (not Rob Orlando)

What does Rich Froning Jr care about becoming the best at something? He trains to be a top CrossFitter, not the strongest, fastest whatever mofo to walk on earth.

To each his own goals. Most of us CrossFitters see a lot of value in strength and work hard towards it, but we also want to have some conditioning. We are not proffessional athletes that get paid to be the best at something, we are just normal people that like to work out because it's fun, it's healthy and badass as ph***!

Ryan R Johnson: Games competitors specialize in CrossFit, that means, being decent at various skills. The strongest don't win CrossFit competitions, same happens with the endurance guys or gymnasts.

Re: 300 lb Grace (not Rob Orlando)

The reason really strong people can do well at certain CF WODs is because they load used in the WOD is such a small percentage of their absolute max that it is nothing to them. We can all lift really light weights (for us) for a lot of reps etc.

Hossain would die trying to do a WOD that was truly endurance biased. He is simply too large.

This all goes back to the point Louie preaches which is that absolute strength is probably the single most important component of functional fitness. If you are really strong and not super huge you can do a lot of things pretty darn well.
