I completely agree with Vlad and Courtney... This past Friday night was one of the most intense nights I've experienced. Those who are fortunate enough to train with Rick know how intensity factors into your own lifts. I know I would not have gotten my 340# PR on the dead lift if it wasn't for everyone screaming at me. If you are unable to train with Rick, this is something that you should keep in my mind, and the title of Vlad's blog says it perfectly: Intensity DOES bring results. The more intense and fired up you and your training partners can be, the better.

As Vlad mentioned, the stuff that we do "up front" (burpees, abs, etc.) require more mental toughness than anything else. Yes, it helps to have a strong core, but at some point, your brain must take over and you must believe that you WILL do this. Mental toughness is extremely hard to achieve, but it can be achieved only by putting yourself in these tough situations repeatedly and getting tougher each time. Vlad, keep up the good work, you're only getting stronger and tougher!

I was looking into the online coaching he was hosting through his website but due to recently moving I couldn't commit financially. Hopefully the programme will be released in more detail or something similar to the online coaching again (I know it was only for a selected few). And one day have him over in the uk.

Keep up the blog, I look forward to your next post.
Steve, I just wanted to respond to you here and thank you for the compliment. Be sure to keep reading, as that is the main reason that I am publishing these entries - people seem to enjoy them. If you have the opportunity to do so - definitely come to train at Ultimate Advantage for a few days, it will change your outlook on life.

Val,

No problem, again another great post. Sounds like your training is improving massively!!

Yeah I would love to, shame I am in the UK or would be straight to a seminar.

Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

Steve,

I am truly making gains in all areas as it pertains to my athleticistm. (BTW not to pick at straws, but I'm Vlad not Val..)

But Rick has told me on a number of occasions that he is more than willing to fly out anywhere for a seminar, so be sure to try to arrange one with him if you can.

The first time I heard about Rick, he was doing a seminar at a CrossFit box that I am familiar with in Washington, DC. Now from what I understand they have adopted his template there, and are seeing everyone make very nice gains accross the board as well. I will be going home to Virginia for two and a half weeks and August for a small break from my project in New Jersey, and though I will not be able to train with Rick during that time - that box in Washington is the only one I will go to (even though my wife currently works out at another box closer to home that I sent her to).

Vlad, (sorry about that ha)

Just read the blog where you hit the rope climb...Awesome! Just shows how much is mental, I mean how much further could we push ourselves that we don't know of.

I know, hopefully he will be over here in the uk sooner rather than later. If I had a full box and not a garage gym I would get him over.

Steve

Hi all,

I have been talking with Rick lately and now working with him online through the programming and coaching. I am very excited to get started with the programme and working with Rick. I will keep you posted how I go with doing it online.

Thanks
Steve

Re: My day with Rick Scarpulla of Ultimate Advantage (Westside 4 Athletes)

Steve,

Congratulations - keep us updated on your progress. That said, here is my latest blog entry;

http://blog.intensitybringsresults.c...ining-and.html

But for those curious - this one is pretty long and I'll give a small preview here:

I retested my Crossfit Total outside of Rick's facility after a month of training with him:

Deadlift - 45 pound PR
Strict Press - 20 pound PR
Squat - 40 pound PR

If those aren't insane numbers to show for a month of training, I don't know what else to say.
