Hey everyone.

My martial arts instructor is in Iraq right now and has gotten very interested in CrossFit since I told him about it and since Pam and I affiliated. He wants me to put together a training program for him that he can work on while he is in Iraq.

He's got very limited amount of equipment, as in next to none, except ammo boxes and duffel bags he can fill with sand. From what he's said, they have no gym facilities over there, not even pullup bars.

I'm putting together some pretty good stuff for him but I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions. I'm looking to see what immediately comes to mind in others to see if I haven't thought of anything.

Thanks.

Matt,
Check out this thread on our site if you're interested. Brian trained at Brand X, went over to Iraq and has his own group training now. He posts his workouts here.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind talking with you and helping you out.

Get the last two CrossFit Journals. He's the sort of dude they wrote them for.

Matt,

I started Crossfit in a pretty austere location last year, and am working with the group Jeff mentioned now. We're lucky enough to have a good amount of equipment now, but I'm always looking for new ways to use what we have. Feel free to shoot me a PM with your instructor's location and what equipment he has access to, I'll be happy to sit and brainstorm.

Thanks Barry, I've been reviewing those Journals.

Thanks Brian. I'll find out exactly where he's at and get back to you.

I write lots of programs for military guys and have found that one of the best ways to do it is write them a mini cycle of CF workouts that they can cycle through a couple of times before they get a fresh batch of workouts.

I also write them two lists of workouts, one that assumes access to basic gym equipment and then a list that assumes they'll be in the middle of nowhere.

Just make sure you include a mix of BW, met con, and some heavy stuff (which tends to get left out when equipment levels are low and requires a bit more creativity) and remember the principles of variety, intensity and functionality.

If you want an example of a program i've written for this sort of thing just email me and i'll shoot one over.
