Stiff-legged power clean

Saw the video of Louie Simmons teaching it on the CF Main Page. Has anybody done these before? If so, what are your opinions on them?

Re: Stiff-legged power clean

I think it's supposed to be a muscle clean. He mentions catching it with no rebend.

I agree with Brian, think it's supposed to be a muscle clean.

I hope Louie knows more about the Oly lifts than that video indicates...

Re: Stiff-legged power clean

I don't know but from what I understand from other powerlifters, some know more about the Olympic lifts than S&C coaches but not quite enough. I think some in the weightlifting community is waiting for guys like Rip and Louie to churn out our next Olympic Champion.

Re: Stiff-legged power clean

If you were concentrating on shoulder/upper back/arm strength, a "muscle clean" might be useful, but it wouldn't be an assistance exercise I would recommend for someone wanting to build or maintain high ability on the clean or power clean, it would just teach too many bad habits.

And I am pretty sure no one in the weightlifting community is waiting for Rip or Louie to coach a good weightlifter, but I know a lot of guys, including me, have picked up some stuff from Louie that has proven useful when it comes to building strength. Louie is a pretty good guy with a lot of good ideas.

Re: Stiff-legged power clean

Just an FYI, Louie was an Olympic lifter (competitive) as a teen prior to turning to powerlifting.

Louie is 62 years old. When he first began training there was no powerlifting per se. The powerlifts were known as the odd lifts if my recollection serves me.

Someone give me a link to the video please.

Chris

Explain yourself? I just watched it. I was there as well (had to refresh my memory). How does he demonstrate Olympic lifting ignorance in that video?
