GHD Sit-ups and Hip Flexor "Pop?"

It seems as though whenever I do GHD sit-ups with full extension (reaching back with one hand and touching the floor) and then return to the upright position relatively quickly, something (hip flexor?) just below the hip crease on the front of my left leg "pops" followed by immediate, but mild pain. If I do the sit-ups very slowly, this does not occur. If I slow down and take it easy, I can continue almost immediately without any pulling sensation. Soreness goes completely away within about 24 hours.

I have no problem with doing them - - they are easy for me to "crank out." At this point, I am wary of including GHDs in a WOD where time or the number of fast reps is an issue. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!
