girlfriend help

Im not sure if I posted this in the right one. But here it goes anyways. I am trying to get my girlfriend to start working out and getting into doing Crossfit. I have been doing it for about 4 months now and I am very impressed with the results and so is she. My Lady is over weight. She is about 5 foot 3 and weights over 230lbs. She is affraid that if she starts working out that all of the fat will turn into muscle and she will still be big. But muscular. She wants to loose all the weight first. Anyone please help me in how I should start her off and get her going in the right direction. Thank you for your time.

Ronnie

Re: girlfriend help

So.. because guys train 10+ years for muscle she's going to get it all in 1 day with much lower testosterone levels than men? Right.

Diet is key.
Heavy lifting, metcon, HIIT, tabatas will all help.

this is just plain dumb. she will not turn all fat to muscle... thats either pure ignorance, or a lame excuse because she is lazy. she needs to work out, speed up her metabolism, and probably stop eating so much. sorry for the bluntness.

Re: girlfriend help

Hey Ronald,

Have her checkout my local affiliate's website-www.albanycrossfit.com. There are a lot of overweight woman that have started going there and we have another trainer-Sue, who has lost over 100lbs and kept it off, her profile is on there. It might just be helpful for her to see other woman doing it-you have to start somewhere!

Re: girlfriend help

Women cannot usually get "big" without SERIOUS training. Look at all the crossfit girls. Do you see any of them who look "big". I see very fit athletic healthy women. When I think big I'm thinkin bodybuilding broads.... yuck.

Just show her pics of the Crossfit women working on in the videos. That should motivate any woman.

Re: girlfriend help

Jeez... such hostility....

Anyway, to the OP: CF won't make anyone huge, let alone an overweight female. CF isn't a mass building regimen, it's aimed at overall fitness. Just take a look at the CF videos, none of the veterans are massive; they're all lean and in shape. Also, as previously mentioned, CF won't do anything unless accompanied by major dietary changes.

Re: girlfriend help

I've talked to a lot of women who have a fear of training with weights. They have teh misconception that they will get big traps and start looking like a man. Somewhere along the way she has probobly seen a picture of some chemical freak of a person that used to look like a woman.

Just educate and encourage her. I would suggest starting her with something very basic like simplefit (simplefit.org)

Buy her a membership to Curves and Weight watchers.
You'll both be happier. Trust me. You'll NEVER win this one, and she'll guilt you to death on your CF progress.

Remember the two most powerful words in any relationship "Yes Dear".
