Problem with my snatch.

Ok, stop laughing.
Anyway, when performing the snatch, are the elbows to remain locked? When I do them, I've been bending the elbows slightly when the bar passes my belt to about the sternum. It seems I'm doing more of a quick clean and press. This isn't correct is it? In instructional vids, it appears to me that the bar kinda bounces off the hips and is tossed overhead in something like a wide-grip front raise. Any pointers?

Re: Problem with my snatch.

Yes, your arms will bend a bit. Think about the Burgener Warm-up...the second or third piece to it is bar up with shoulders shrugged and elbows high (bent). There is hip action in it, but in order to keep that bar coming straight up, you have to bend the elbows. Otherwise the bar is going to be brought outside the body resulting in bad technique and major issues. Look at each frame of that instructional video, and you will see what I mean. Also, become familiar with the Burgener Warm-up if you are not already.

Re: Problem with my snatch.

Ahh, thanks... I'll have to practice that a bit more.
