Need Some Opinions...

I'm trying to decide on whether I should go with this (Walmart $177) and hang a pull-up bar from the ceiling in my garage. (I would ditch the preacher curl and leg attachments.):

Or, if I should go with a power rack.

Any thoughts?

Power rack, much more useful for working out alone... you can always find someone who is looking to get rid of a bench if you need it later on.

Although, I am thinking that I just want a 1/2 rack and a separate PU bar. Takes up less space overall than a full power rack.

I'd be going for the power rack since i should't take up much more than that bench in floor space, but you'll be able to get more usage out of it, especially if you train by yourself alot doing squat, the power rack should have safety pins that you can dump the bar on to and not need extra proection for the floor

Only question I've got about a power rack is: how's one work out for doing kipping pull-ups?

Power rack. And get a reputable brand like York, Tuff Stuff, Magnum, etc. It will last forever. That cheap Chinese Wal Mart stuff will break in a year or two, the steel is incredibly flimsy and all of those attchments are held on by little bronze bushings.

depends on how the pull up bar is mounted, i have seen some where they attach a bar to the front for the power rack, and i have seen others that have the pull up bar in place of the cross beam at the front so you have a good open area for kipping pull ups

I'm looking at this rack. Made by New York Barbells. Found one on Craigslist for $200.
