So I'm heading back to school soon - Duke, Maryland (interview on the 15th), or Notre Dame (already accepted) - to get my MBA and I'm going to be needing to get some kitchen things. I'm wanting to pick up a good vegetable steamer and a meat smoker. Maybe $150-200 total for the 2 of them...is that doable? Which brands/models do you all recommend? Are there other things that you all would advise me to have besides the typical cooking things?

Scott:

Congratulations on your impending MBA. I'm just finishing up at Kellogg. I was very close to selecting Duke but am quite happy with my decision. Anyway, I don't have a lot of advice about what to take for your kitchen. I took my wife and I couldn't be happier.

my kitchen essentials:

george foreman grill
braun hand mixer
8" henckels chef knife
8" henckels bread knife (for veggies of course, not bread!)
tongs
med & lg sautee pans
cutting board

i usually don't steam anything. i'll sautee my veggies in olive oil on low heat instead.

Slow cookers and pressure cookers are great additions.

A vegetable steamer like this one: http://www.happycookers.com/wc.dll/p...ge/1-4823.html is cheap, provided you have a pot and a stove.

Good luck with your business school applications.
