ive seen this pop up now and again. Specifically when one works out during a recovery day. (asides from "active recovery" be a contradiction in terms) I'snt that more detrimental than helpful? if not for the physical aspect, mentally. Diminishing returns, overtraining, blah blah. just curious. thanks!

jason,

for me active rest/recovery is not seen as a work out, but as an activity. not done to advance training or fitness, but purely for enjoyment. often these are done at a lower intenstiy sometimes not though. for me when i work out i am competeing aginst myself, when i do other activities i see it as play. this may not be the best explaination, or even what you are looking for.

It can be. Frequently however a very light session which does good things like increasing both core temp and insulin sensitivity. Good stuff. Active recovery may mean instead of doing a heaviy clean and jerk WO you use an empty bar and work technique for 20 min. No hard science here! Just a little common sense and listening to your body.
