True, SS is a novice program with finite progress, but in terms of adding muscle mass it is better than CF. If you were to take an untrained person and have them follow either program, including the dietary recommendations attached to both, I am certain the person following SS would have more muscle mass than the person on CF.

The FAQ is a bit vague in the details and I am assuming it is relating to a novice looking to gain muscle mass. I also assume by CF they mean mainpage programming since it is on the mainpage FAQ.

I'm sure they'll be given a prominent place on fliers/posters/etc. and a booth to give away and/or sell their wares, but that is to be expected when you have any major sponsor at an event. It is a MARKETING tool for the company who is putting up the $$$.

It ain't personal -- it's business.
the question is whether anything goes for business.

not saying supplement companies are the worst thing in the world, but for a company that rejects the muscle mag and globo gym model, bringing on a supplement company as the major sponsor of your flagship event sure seems like a move in that direction.

I take it you missed the recent photo spreads in the CFJ? Ok, not technically bathing suits but hardly demure.

YES we should be concerned when CFHQ puts on a pedestal people who habitually train themselves to serious injury and consider it the requirement of anyone else following in their footsteps!
And you've also missed the last half-dozen rhabdo threads? Granted, the CF community doesn't view rhabdo as necessary, but CFHQ keeps programming the workouts that are known to cause it.

Re: progenex?!

I do CrossFit and I don't take steroids, Progenx, Zone bars, Zone cakes, paleo kits. I didn't buy the $200.00 trigger point kit (which is a stick and a ball) at regionals. I don't have Vibram five fingers, I keep my shirt on when I train. I watch WSM without taking Met rx, I watch the Olympics while eating McDonalds. I Watch Songebob without buying the matching sheet set.

If somebody wants to give $ away to the winners of the games, and it is not a company that sells the stuff that we like than that is something that we are going to have to workout within ourselves. If I had a chance to win the games (never) I would not give a crap where the 25k came from, I would just be grateful to get it.

What do they have to back this claim up with?
I looked at the website too. The whole paragraph:

For athletes, bodybuilders, and established exercise adherents, the benefits of PROGENEX proteins are readily apparent. By producing unprecedented gains in strength, muscle mass, and exercise recovery, PROGENEX empowers athletes to reach their full potential...and to do so faster than ever before.

It's easy to back up the claim. They're talking about protein; whey protein at that. Knowing whey protein has the highest on the Biological Value Scale; which has been used for about ever. The higher the value, the more amino acid and nitrogen your body retains. More means muscle growth and strength. Of course they probably have a bunch of lab results that would look like a calculus problem. Read about the BVS and protein, whey protein, etc. may help you understand a little bit more.

On the issues with sponsorship seems like a no brainer. I think Progenex is right in line with CF. Probably more than say a hand gun from Viking Tactics. Which is still cool!

Sponsorship is $$$. I've always wondered how Viagra got on a NASCAR ride.

Peace!

If you mean it is a slippery slope logical fallacy to suggest that having a supplement company sponsor the Games will lead to a pose down event then you are correct.
