Recently I seemed to have developed a persistent ache on the interior of my right ankle, just under the "knot" of the ankle bones. This hurts the worst after extended runs, but also acts up under heavy loads where the ankle is fully flexed (heavy deads, olympic lifting, etc.) I have always had crummy knees, due to baseball and skiing accidents, but the ankle pain is new. Any ideas what this is? Does this seem like something I should see a doctor about or are they just going to tell me to take ibuprofin? Really the pain isn't unbearable, i.e. doing a max deadlift, my hamstrings hurt way more than my ankle, but my ankle tells me about it after the lift for a few minutes. I'm just not sure if this something I should be worried about.

I would get it looked at. Perhaps there is something in there?

In any case don't take Ibuprofin. Take something with 5-Loxin in it. You will get the same results without the Liver damage. Something like this:

There may be others out there better.

I would check your arch support....
The point that you are describing sounds like the path of the posterior tibialis tendon. Its main job is to lift the arch of the foot after normal pronation. You may just need some more support.
