Which milk is more zoney?

So 2%, whole, skim.... which milk is the most zone-friendly?

I've been drinking a little bit of chocolate milk (about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of skim milk with about a spoonful of chocolate syrup) after completing the WOD. I usually have it about 15 minutes after finishing the workout, and it seems to help me bounce back from the post-WOD fatigue a bit quicker.

But what is the zone-prefered milk? Should I get something other than skim, so I'll have all 3 macro-nutrients in my post workout snack, or is the fat in milk considered a bad fat?

Thanks for the info,
Megan

Re: Which milk is more zoney?

It seems to depend who you ask. A lot of people will say no milk is zone friendly.

I was convinced rather recently after a long debate that whole milk is the best for you. Being that whole milk is balanced.
It was hard to wrap my mind around.

I drink milk because I'm poor and it's the cheapest form protein.

Well, if you are trying to get a zone ratio of 40/30/30 then that would be a 50/50 blend of 1% and 2% milk.

Thanks for the input.

I'll pick up a carton of the 2% and see if my post-WOD chocolate milk has an even better effect with it, instead of the skim.

Milk has a higher impact on insulin than the macro nutrients would indicate. You need the fat from whole milk to blunt this.

So, should I drink milk? I'm planning on beginning the hard routine when I get back to school, but I'm poor.

I want to be strict about it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's wrong with drinking say... skim milk and then eating a few almonds with it to get some fats that are a little healthier than all the saturated fat in while milk?

Your body needs saturated fat, why not know where you are getting it from? Nothing wrong with that approach (other than the fats are completely different), but fat, especially naturally saturated, makes things taste so good.

Re: Which milk is more zoney?

A lot of store bought choco milk uses 1% lowfat milk to cut down on the calories especially when adding chocolate ( rather HighFructoseCornSyrup and chocolate ).

Chocolate milk using chocolate powder ( sugar and cocoa ) tastes different than the corn syrup and choco variety. Nestle Quik and the like have a weird off taste. Chocolate syrup tastes a bit better especially TraderJoes ( which is chocolate and doesn't use corn syrup ).

Any sort of milk probably has enough carbs in it for glycogen replenishment. Most choco milk has about 2.5x the amount of carbs in it. If you are trying to curb the insulin spike on the high-end, the choco is not a good idea methinks.

I was just reading that my whey powder has fructose in it and that kind of annoys me. Crystalline fructose, I think. Bah, TJ.
