Stuck in a pickle!

Ok I have read through the forums for a while now trying to find a solid opinion and have been unsuccessful. Here is my issue:
I am a soldier that will be deploying in roughly 2 months. I have been busting my behind in the gym doing Endurance running (35 mins 5.5 miles with 5 minute cooldown) followed by the WOD from the main page ending with a 2000m row and/or 2 mile cool down on bike 5-6 times a week. My ultimate goal is to gain maximum strength while keeping my endurance up until, during and after my tour. I am currently 5'11 , 175-180lbs. Will just the WOD suffice or should I be incorporating some extra strength exercises within my training days?

Over the past week I have tested my strength/endurance, an example being yesterday's exercise (I have today as my rest day and created my own WOD for yesterday):

Start: 3.4 miles in 15 minutes
2 miles exercise bike
5 rounds for time: 5 DL @ 275 followed by 10 burpees (Time:4:47)
Row- 1000m 6mins

I felt that I would die if I went any further than this. on future WOD's should I focus on incorporating extra strength exercises and subtracting some endurance or what?
all opinions are greatly appreciated,
Thank you for your time,
-Matt

Re: Stuck in a pickle!

Hey Matt,

Sounds like you're pretty strong and have some awesome endurance already. If you really want to increase your strength you can always add some heavy lifting before the met-con. Just take care not to over train. Get lots of sleep, eat right and listen to your body.

But like you said, if you feel like you'd die if you did more, then don't!

In then end, I recommend trying different programs for at least a month to two months. Observe the reactions to your body and adjust as needed.

p.s. Where do you train in Ottawa?

Re: Stuck in a pickle!

Thanks for the fast and helpful response it was extremely useful!
As for training in Ottawa, I tend to go to Goodlife Merivale and Strandherd or train at home. Aside from those 3 areas, I also train on base in Petawawa. I try to get atleast 8 hours of sleep a night - though it is sometimes difficult having to drive an hour and a half to base at 530am and an hour and a half home to the gym anywhere between 2 and 5pm afterwork.

Take care and thanks again!

-Matt

Dude with your running ability you don't lose endurance by cutting out CF conditioning - just add some really heavy lifts to your routine and focus on slowly increasing the weight.

Re: Stuck in a pickle!

You're running the equivalent of a sub fourteen minute 5k (4:26 pace)and then pulling heavy deads? Impressive.

I may put that into some serious consideration. It is extremely interesting for sure.

Thanks to all for the comments, any little bit helps! Coming from a background in strength training I must say CF is a far superior workout. Though mildly sadistic, it adds the "fun factor" for sure!

Re: Stuck in a pickle!

Did you mean a 2000 meter erg because a 6 min 1000 m erg is a 3:00/500 pace? The rest sounds great, i can only dream of running that fast and lifting like that
