Here's a thought I'd like to share with someone, and I think this is just the place. I was thinking about Phil Phister, who just won the World's Strongest Man... in the competition one of the events was basically doing a farmer's walk with a car (I hope you all saw it so you know what I'm talking about). I thought of a homemade apparatus that is similar - take a tractor tire and somehow attach shoulder straps so you could stand inside it; then you could stuff sandbags inside the tire to increase the weight. Do farmer's walks with it.

joe, i think it would be similar to the yoke but different enough. with the yoke the weigh is balanced left and right of the body with the tire idea it would be all the way around you. not sure how much this would affect the body but at higher weights i think it would be significant. my .02. It would also require a little more body control to move.

Trav...You'd have to make darn sure that the extra weight, when added, was distributed evenly within the tire.

Randy Strossen of ironmaid marketed an item origianlly developed in the 30s called the magic circle. It had a climbing grade nylon web harness that went over the shoulders attached to a circular steel frame with two opposing bars to add weith to. You could duplicate it with a harness and a trap deadlift bar.
