Yeah sumo's are more fun than I remember, not seen much of them lately, they felt good and light after the deadlifting.

Ive not seen the video yet, apparently me and Rob were both not opening our hips fully on the air squats, which I believe as I tend to do that when rushing air squats.

18 is a good score Callum, you beat most people from my affiliate.

Here's my UK throwdown 2 effort, my air squats are terrible, looks like I am riding a horse leaning forward.

Re: A Bears Tale

Its good to see yourself doing those air squats Scott. I'm sure you'll be much more aware of that from now on during workouts. I can tell you right now that if you had more efficient olympic form, you would have beaten him by several reps.

I'm sure you're aware of your early arm bend during the cleans. If you haven't already, compare both of your guys cleans in the video. He's using mosly his hips to get the bar up to his shoulders. You are using half hips and half upper body to get the bar to your shoulders. I dont think the shoulder to overhead form is as much of a big deal (but form improvement would get you better scores).

Don't feel like I'm picking you apart Scott. I have no room to talk or judge, as I haven't used an oly bar more than 2 times in over a year. We all know that you have awesome work capacity and you are strong. Does your affiliate do any specific olympic training? If you spent quality time fixing some form issues, the results would be pretty scary. I could imagine 7-10 more reps on this workout, maybe more.

Your right and we have been programming cleans & jerks in on a weekly basis, the musclin has actually got a lot less, the fact you said its 50% hips means I have improved a lot. Also when doing heavier reps I do keep my arms straighter, that in the video is my special 60k clean & jerks that I use in metcons, its better in strength workouts, not greatly but noticeably.

I trained strength for a long time and almost zero hip thrust so have built up massive stamina on pulling a bar to were I want it, whereas my hip thrust is still not quite what it needs to be and therefore with lower weights game it as I need to.

Last year my PR for Power Clean was 85-90k and my Muscle Clean 105k, right now my power clean is 101k and muscle clean 100k so getting better.

Re: A Bears Tale

2 December 2011

Shoulder Press 60k x 5 x 3

20 minute amrap:

15 Swings 28k
10 Squats with 25k plate
5 Dynamic Push ups (Jump hands up onto plates) - 12 rounds, 15 reps

Cannot beat the old 20 minute amrap, we also had a surprise break of 2 minutes after 12 minutes had passed then finished off the last 8 minutes with a bit of extra intensity.

Re: A Bears Tale

3 December 2011

Started squat cleans but wrist is painful right now, had this before, like something needs to click back in place.

Complete the following 2 times, rest 60 seconds after every 3 minutes of work.

In 3 minutes: run 200m, 20 bar-facing burpees, max hang power clean & jerk 70kg R1: 8. R2: 4
In 3 minutes: run 200m, 20 pullups, max KB swings (32/16kg) R1: 28 R2: 18
In 3 minutes: run 200m, 20 bar facing burpees, max thrusters (55/25kg) R1: 11 R2: 3
In 3 minutes: run 200m, 20 pullups, max double unders R1: 76 R2: 72

Total score 216

REally hard workout and needed wrist strap throughout, really hard to get the burpees done in time to get any real go at the barbel stuff.

Re: A Bears Tale

4 December 2011

4.5k Santa Fun Run - 19.30 6th place

Happy with that running today, sprinted off in first chasing rudolph on he's bike, was expecting more people to come past me but did not happen so all good. From our gym we had 2nd, 3rd, 6th and everyone else was top 15 out of 400 runners.

Then back to the gym..

10 minute amrap:
5 Muscle Ups
30 Walking lunges - 4 rounds, 13 reps

Ran hard so left myself spent for this amrap.

Awesome time on the race. Your legs must be totally fried after the running and then the 128 lunges!
