Alex,
You are not young for a CrossFitter. We have been using CrossFit methodology to train kids for about 6 years now. We have CrossFitters as young as 3 and many in the the teen age group. Contact Nichole at CrossFit Kids. She can put you in touch with some.

Re: How many 15 year olds are there out there?

I did Crossfit when I was 16-17 for some time, went on and off due to things like travel etc.. After only a few months of training, I had a 315lb deadlift, 6 minute Fran, 5:40 mile, 11 deadhang pull ups, which is very very average by Crossfit standards. You can improve very quickly at your age (well at my age too, I recently turned 19 )

Hey Alex,

Check out some of these young guys:

Here is Connor competing at the 2008 CrossFit Games. He was 16 at the time.

Here is Keegan, who is 15, completing a very tall tire jump and deadlifts with 200 x 5.

Find us on Facebook where there are a lot of people your age doing CrossFit. Also, please feel free to contact me: nichole@crossfitkids.com

Thanks Alex!

OT, but: Connor is a natural. What sports does he play?

Yeah you are doing well. But don't overdo it at 15. That is, if you are a new Crossfitter who doesn't have the benefit of Jeff's watchful supervision/programming, I recommend for you to work on your technique (squats, bench, clean, snatch, jerk, etc...) as well as gymnastics, POSE running etc... more so than trying to get to a 400 or 450 deadlift.
From what I have read, there have been studies that have linked weightlifting to stunted growth * mainly due to injuries *
The lesson is, don't get injured by pushing the weight up too quickly/with incorrect form. Be smart about your training, learn as much about Crossfit and other training methods as possible, to set yourself up for optimum training in the future.

If I had to go back, I'd work on technique (like the hip drive on the squat) because that stuff turned out to be way more useful down the road than any short term increases.

Did you actually find any studies on this? I've looked and only found poorly written stories on message boards or places like "grow-taller.com" (not wfs due to idiocy)
