With the weather getting nicer, I was considering adding some beach running to my routine. Actually considering doing some beach sprinting as well. I do remember some time back hearing that running in the sand was not really a good idea ... something to do with the instability of the sand being too much for muscles, tendons and/or ligaments. Running is really one of my weak spots (one of many) so I thought I would at least do it somewhere with a nice view. All comments greatly appreciated.

I'm new to CrossFit, but I've been running for, uh, decades. I think beach running is great. You can vary the intensity (harder sand down by the water, softer sand up around the high tide mark) to fine tune for your stability needs. Dunes are great, too--better than stadium stairs. I'd ease into it, as with anything new, but if you've been doing Crossfit for a while you shouldn't have much trouble adapting. Not sure I'd do it all the time, but I'd definitely throw it into the mix.

Now I'm sitting here missing the ocean. It's been a while. Might have to plan a road trip...

Beach running is the best. I wear shoes for any real runs, at 190, the sand is plenty hard to give shin splints.

Sprints in the hard sand I do barefoot, you're on the toes anyway.

As far as the soft part work in very slowly. If you're not used to it you could definetly twist an ankle or worse a knee.
