How long have the CF gods done CF?

Anyone know how long the CF gods - Speal, OPT, Greg A - have been doing CrossFit? What was their background prior to starting CF?

CF started in 2001, so the early people have been with it for 6-7 years probably.

Re: How long have the CF gods done CF?

If memory serves me correctly, Eva T. was with Coach at a SC Globo-gym prior to the CF days when he took her under his wing in the late 90's. Eva was looking to spice up her training routine for skiing and worked into the model coach was creating as he went.

Greg A., was one of my partners at SC Sheriff's Dept., and we would often be in the same car together in 2001'ish. Greg was getting into CF back then and was trying to talk me into some of the principles of CF, but I was a muscle bound, 205 Lb, knuckle dragging bodybuilder guy at the time who thought my way was better. Yeah, right.....

Greg was already a freak at the time, doing crazy strength workouts in the dept gym and then his own thing later on. He used to take a 150 Lb grappling dummy down to the beach and run sprints with it on his back up and down the shoreline. He'd throw it down, wrestle with it and beat it up for a couple minutes, and then put it on his back again to repeat the cycle over and over. The guy was, and still is, tireless - he can go on and on and on.

Around the same time, Jason Highbarger (now at North Santa Cruz), was working out at my gym on 41st Avenue. My wife and I would see him in there every night doing some crazy crap- TGU's w/a barbell, plyos, circuit routines "executed at high intensity", some power lifting and core work. We all gave him a wide berth as we thought he was crazier than a rat in a hot tin shat house (much like the rest of the world thought about us when we started CF, eh?!) J-Dog tried telling me about what he was doing and why, but hell, I was to busy doing six rep sets DB Flies and tricep pressdowns to care....

Come 2005 it finally hit me like a thunderbolt....DOH!!! Sometimes it pays to listen, not just hear...
