Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

Bone Growth Stimulator delivered today, it's the ultra sound type. We'll see how it goes. I'm curious at best and dubious at worst, but I'll keep an open mind.

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

Those are tough to get to heal.

Did the surgeon give you the choice of putting a screw down the shaft? Pretty simple fix.

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

It was brought up, but they want to try everything else before they cut, I've got three screws in the front end of that bone already and it took forever for that too heal as well. I'm beginning to think that I should have just had the screw put in from the get-go and had a bone growth stimulator from the start. I've got an appointment with the podiatrist on Monday, and will be asking him about it. I've already been out for six months, "they" are saying roughly another six months to see if the bone growth stimulator works and if it doesn't then put a screw in which will be another 3-6 months. I'm thinking I should just get it out of the way now. A year and a half broken in not my idea of a good time.

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

If you're trying to do everything you can, the supplement Cissus Quadrangularis has shown promising research with reference to bone healing time and strength. That's about all it's good for IMO, but it's a pretty cheap option and there's no real downside to it.

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

So are you seeing a podiatrist or an orthopedist?

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

Podiatrist now, the first 5 months was on an orthopedist that said, essentially, "yup, still broken" at each new x-ray. The first time I saw him, 1 month after the initial break, he came in and said it didn't look like the bone had healed at all on the x-ray. I asked him which x-ray he was looking at, because the only x-ray that was taken was on the day of the break. It could have been an honest mistake, but you'd think if you're checking out a patient that has had a broken bone for a month you would look at the initial x-ray as well as the updated one to compare positioning, bone growth, etc...

Re: Bone Growth Stimulator

It's been 6 months?

At this point I'd opt for surgery rather than a second trip down the bone stim path.

The way I see it is this: If Plan A didn't work, don't make Plan B the same as Plan A.
