I was reading up on the Pavelizer (actuall the Pavelizer II) and learned about Janda situps. I tried them by making a loop out of some elastic tubbing and putting one end around a pole, the other end around my two legs at the same point the Pavelizer would go. It was a really wierd feeling not being able to actually sit all the way up.

I was wondering if there is an advantage to using an actual Pavelizer over this. Anyone here have a Pavelizer and if so, could you tell me the advantage of it over just using a loop of elastic tubing?

That's a good way to do it. I do the same thing with my JumpStretch bands. As much as I love Pavel and everything he does, I think the Pavelizer is a bit expensive for a single use piece of equipment. It is a great exercise though.

I own the P2. Like you, I used an elastic-band contraption (specifically, a JS band double-looped around a dumbbell-weighted bench) when I didn't have the P2. I still use it regularly, and it's certainly a lot more convenient than bands (it doesn't slip around as much) but you could a lot more bang for your buck with rings or weights and an abdominal wheel.
