Power Rack Rehab
I have a power rack that I got from the side of the road in the trash.
I have had no space for it for about the past year and it has sat outside under a friends patio. I now have room for it and want to fix it up. Yesterday I bought all new hardware (nuts, bolts, washers) for it and disassembled it. It has some pretty good rust, what should I do to solve my rust problem? Sanding it seems like it would take forever and i might not get an even finish, and getting it sandblasted seems expensive. Anyone know the approximate cost to get something like this sandblasted? After it is sandblasted how should I paint it? Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks Wes |

I don't know that you really need to go to the expense of getting it sandblasted...just to keep it functional you would probably be fine to hit the major rust areas with a wire brush and then go to town with some rustoleum spray paint over the whole thing.
I'm not sure what kind that is...maybe an old biodyne? The pull-up bar looks distinctive. |

I would suggest taking it to a powder coating place. Not sure what the prices are out there but it would be roughly $100-150 in California.
They would sand blast it and powder coat it which would stop it from rusting in the future and be the most durable coating you will ever have on it. |

Re: Power Rack Rehab
Paint it with POR-15, right over top of the rust. It's made to stop rust. Plus, it won't rust anymore if it's indoors anyway. POR-15 is kind-of thick too so it smoothes out the surface, then you can paint right over it.
You should take a close look though and make sure the rust is only on the serface. You don't want ANY weakening of the structure of that rack when it's there to safe your life. |

Re: Power Rack Rehab
If you do decide to have it sandblasted, check with your local headstone/grave marker makers to see if they do it.
I used to dabble in custom motorcycles (choppers mostly), and had a local headstone maker that would sandblast parts for me for $35/hr with a 1 hr minimum. I'd box up everything I needed done, drop it off at his shop, go get lunch, and it would be ready for me when I was done eating. |

That bench looks nice - I like these sliding seat designs. Do you know the model number?

That appears to be the Nautilus NT1010. I have one like it but in grey instead of white. I'm pretty sure it's out of production now, but you should be able to find a new Lamar LS512 or Body Solid GFI21, which are both fairly similar in design. Parabody also made a similar bench years ago, but they're not around any more either. ![]() |

![]() Awesome alternatives btw, never knew about the Lamar. If you could, what is the height of that NT1010 when flat? |
